Those who know The Artist's Way, will know the morning pages. 3 pages full of thoughts, wishes, emotions, maybe even total nonsense. Some use it as brainstorm journal, others use it to express themselves. How I use my morning pages, depends on my mood but mostly I use them to write down my thoughts. Mostly when I feel confused about something or someone and if I don't wish or can't talk about it. These pages are actually not interesting to reread so why would I keep them? On the other hand, throwing them away is not very respectful too, that's why I decided to use those pages in mixed media. That's what I've done today:
3-4 different layers of morning pages. Lots of acrylic paint, textures and as finishing touch some thoughts written down with white-silver ink. The circles on the right are little peeks from the first layer, which means those are the pages I've pulled out of my journal. And some details:
Do you write morning pages? If so, what do you do with those once you have finished a journal?

I have read The Artist's way and I am aware of the idea of morning pages. Earlier, I used to write daily in my diary, every morning/ night. I have at least 10 Diaries, corresponding to a particular year. I wish I could turn my blog into morning pages, by writing a post everyday ! Love your art and this post.
ReplyDeletehave a nice day !
Have done 'morning pages' for years ~ so have many notebooks and just store them away (paper is not that great) You have been very creative and used the pages well ~~ thanks, ^_^ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteCool pages!
ReplyDeleteI do morning pages in a nice journal. They just stay there and when a journal it finished it gets filed away...
Loving all the wonderful layers. Happy PPF, Annette x
ReplyDeleteDid morning pages a lot when the book first came out. Now, a friend has been saying she wants to do the Artist's Way. It keeps popping up in my life everywhere lately. I'm going to start the pages again and borrow your art journalling idea. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI did the morning pages for awhile--was amazed at how it seemed to clear the way for me to be more creative. I love the idea of using them in a painting!
ReplyDeleteLove this connection of your writing and art and the resulting pieces that coalesce this. Like Madeline, The Artists Way keeps popping up lately so might be time to write more regularly in this way.
ReplyDeletemorning pages are things I have done at different times, sometimes written, sometimes sketches, and they are always a good way to get back on track... thanks for the reminder... great post...xx
ReplyDeletewhat wonderful textured pieces!
ReplyDeleteLove that texture and colors! I don't do pages, but this is inspiring :o)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing and brave idea to layer your morning pages into your mixed-media work!
ReplyDeleteI have read The Artist's Way more than once! :)

Happy PPF!!

This post speaks to me! About 17 years ago I did morning pages....hid them...then reread them a year later...my life was the same, I needed to be divorced after a long term marriage. Those pages were the catalyst to the changes needed!! I no longer do them, but I know they can have the answers needed down the road!! Also a wonderful gauge for growth!! Beautiful art!! Thanks for sharing. Artist way is one of my all time favorite books!!

What a great re-use of morning pages. I think mine finally were used for fire-starters when I had to make a hasty move. I like your use much better.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've read the Artists Way and my intention was to follow it. . .however. . . . I love that you respect your work so much that you want to reuse what you have done that you aren't satisfied with. . .a remarkable trait/talent. Blessings, Janet PPF
ReplyDeleteReusing your pages for more art is a wise move! I save all seemingly "useless" art work including that of my young students' and work on top of it. Usually I rubber stamp it or print on it with styrofoam or E-Z cut carved images.
